The Radical Religious Right
Serious Threats to the Environment, Freedom, and Global Stability by Christianity

A threatening phenomenon has entered the religious world since the mid 1970s; the Conservative Christian Right.  We all have differing views in our society about what constitutes that segment of society and, for good reason.  Generally, most non-members of these groups know them by their attacks on homosexuals, environmentalists, liberal thinkers, sex education, women's rights, abortion, pornography, inter-racial relationships, civil rights issues, moral violations, inter-faith concepts, bans on prayer in schools, evolution, euthanasia, immigration, peace movements, lack of patriotism, flag burning, death penalty opponents, and the separation of church and state; to name a few.
However, most of these issues are common to all these groups and we see their political efforts to fight these "scourges" on an ignorant society in our daily headlines.  There are three other groups that get little press but are extremely dangerous to our freedom, our environment, and the stability of the entire world.

The Christian Zionists

Postmillennialists believe that Christ will not return to earth until much of the world has converted to Christianity.  The most prominent example of this type of movement in history is known as the Crusades, which were started as a pretext of recovering the "Holy Land" for Christianity, (Catholicism).  More recently, the region has been at the center of the Arab-Israeli conflict.  The "Holy Land", as defined in this concept generally includes, but is not restricted to, the modern State of Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and much of modern-day Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.
Though not blatantly obvious in modern society this movement not only supports the overthrow of the governments of many of the countries encompassing "Holy Land" but the control of these lands by Israel.  It is believed that the occupation of these lands by Israel is a necessary prerequisite for the return of Jesus, whom the Jewish religion does not even embrace as the "Messiah".  Even more bizarre is that this movement also believes that all Jews must convert to Christianity and accept Jesus.
The immediate danger is that Christian Zionists put great pressure on the current White House Administration to encourage and support Israel to take these "Holy Land" areas by force, through political pressure and military aid.  They not only provide direct financial support of the Israeli occupation of these lands and removal of their rightful occupants but physically participate in the building and defense of occupation settlements.  It is generally believed that Israel would have neither the desire, nor the means to further this occupation without this movement.
We now see unwarranted and destructive attacks by Israel against Lebanon and loud saber-rattling against Syria in our current headlines.  Not only does the current White House Administration refuse to allow any halt to these hostilities but it is providing military support to Israel for it.  This is strongly supported by the Postmillennialists, who may be the catalyst for the beginning of the attacks against Lebanon and the massive scale of infrastructure damage, death, and injury.  Certainly, the oppression of the Palestinian people and their eventual removal from all of "Israel" is a direct result of the actions of this movement.  The rebuilding of the Temple at Jerusalem is also part of the overall concept.
Stated simply, the movement seeks to hasten the return of Jesus by creating a new Holy Land under the rule of Israel, without regard to the welfare of those people currently occupying these areas.

The Dominionists

Dominion Theology is used as a general term for all those who believe that God gave mankind complete rule over the planet.  We are using this specific term to separate a particular movement called "Wise Use" directly connected to the work of Ron Arnold, head of the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise, and advocate of the right to own property and use the planet's resources for the benefit of mankind.  This takes on a sinister aspect when considering that are groups that believe the actual destruction of the environment is a prerequisite for the return of Jesus.  They are also Postmillennialists who believe that Christ will not return to earth until the environment is almost completely destroyed and actively participate in that destruction.

The Reconstructuinists / Dominists - Theonomy & Theocracy

Theonomy is defined by Merriam-Webster as: the state of being theonomous, which means governed by God : subject to God's authority.  Theocracy is defined as government of a state by divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided   The basic belief is that the entire world should be forced to follow all the laws of the Old Testament.  Under theoretical model civil laws must be changed to match the Bible's moral rules and each individual, family, church, government and society must be reconstructed to eliminate sin.  People should be executed for adultery, blasphemy, heresy, homosexual behavior, idolatry, prostitution, pre-marital or extra-marital sex, and evil sorcery (witchcraft), to name a few of the proposed capital crimes.  They believe that those found guilty of these "crimes" either be stoned to death or burned alive and are only divided by the execution method to be used.   They also believe that slavery should be reintroduced into society and that these goals be accomplished through genocide and mass murder, rather than through proselytizing.
These groups believe that Jesus will not return until most of the world has fallen under theocratic rule.
