What is that Thing?
Two massive objects have been exposed in Greenland's melting ice
that are not only completely foreign to the ice-bound region but obviously of
not natural in their appearance. One is almost 50 mile, 80 kilometers, long and
appears orange with a long stripe on it's edge. Close inspection reveals a
stippled surface with strange formations on its surface. The other is a
rectangular solid black object eerily reminiscent of the obelisk in the movie
2001, A Space Odyssey.
Global Warming is Pushing Edges of Tropics Towards Poles
The greenhouse effect is causing
Earth's zone of tropical climate to creep towards the poles, according to a
study whose release on Sunday coincided with the eve of a major UN conference on
climate change.
Footprints Seen Around Mt. Everest Stoke Yeti Mystery
A U.S.-based television channel investigating the existence of the
legendary Yeti in Nepal has found footprints similar to those said to be that of
the abominable snowman, the company said on Friday.
Senate Bill Puts Morgellons Ahead of West Nile Virus, CFS
The 2008 U.S. Senate Labor, Health and Human Services and Education
and Related Services Appropriations Bill. The Committee urges the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention to study an unexplained skin condition commonly
known as Morgellons Disease, which affects over 10,000 individuals with skin
lesions, joint pain, and neurological difficulties, among other symptoms.
Rising Seas Threaten Cities
Globally, nearly half the world's 50 largest cities will be
affected, including London, Tokyo, New York, Calcutta, Buenos Aires, Shanghai,
Hong Kong and Amsterdam. Climate scientists admit that global warming impacts
are showing up much sooner than anticipated, as made clear in these recent
comments:
Ice sheets appear to be shrinking 100 years ahead of schedule. —
Climatologist Richard Alley, Penn State University
We are all used to talking about these impacts coming in the
lifetimes of our children and grandchildren. Now we know that it's us. —
Professor Martin Parry, co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change impacts working group
Water Power
Danny Klein in Clearwater, Fla. invents a process to burn water.
Kauai to Superferry - Stay Away - By Bob Nichols
The 350 ft long military spec transport ship is not welcome on
Kauai, Hawaii, local residents made clear to the military / civilian transport
officials with Superferry Corporation Monday. The catamaran, twin hulled vessel
is a dual use civilian / Troop transport. The 40,000 HP ship is capable of high
speed transport at 42 mph on the open ocean, about twice the speed of other
transport ships. It gets very poor gas mileage, about 5 gallons per mile, due to
military speed requirements.
Divorce Squanders Earth's Resources
Divorce leaves more than a trail of legal documents, stinging egos
and uprooted kids. The split-ups wreak havoc on the environment. A global
trend of soaring divorce rates has led to a surge in the number of households
with fewer people. The result: We collectively devour more space and gobble up
more energy and water, say the authors of a new study published online this week
in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Chimps Beat Humans in Memory Test
Chimpanzees have an extraordinary photographic memory that is far
superior to ours, research suggests. Young chimps outperformed university
students in memory tests devised by Japanese scientists. The tasks involved
remembering the location of numbers on a screen, and correctly recalling the
sequence. The findings, published in Current Biology, suggest we may have
under-estimated the intelligence of our closest living relatives.
In Madurai, Kids Pick Human Bones for a Living
At the busiest crematorium in this Tamil Nadu temple town in
southern India, the quiet work of a group of little boys is more heart-rending
than the wails of bereaved relatives. About 10 boys visit the crematorium at
Thathaneri on the banks of the Vaigai river and rummage through the heap of hot
ashes of dead bodies with their small bare hands to pick bones.
Report Shows New Yorkers Contaminated with Depleted Uranium Over
20 Years After Exposure
A new report documents depleted uranium (DU) can be detected in
people more than two decades after exposure when using high sensitivity urine
tests. Scientists' data also reveal that significant DU remains in some Albany
and Colonie, N.Y., household dust, two months after the federal government ended
a "cleanup" of the site and surrounding neighborhood and 27 years after the New
York State Supreme Court closed the NL Industries factory for illegal uranium
emissions.
Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Products - Plastic,
Poison, and Power in the New World Order
New evidence seems to arrive daily—from stories about tainted pet
food to toxic toys—of the dangerous consequences that lax environmental policies
are having on the consumer products that we, and our children, use every day
thanks to lobbying efforts by the U.S. chemical industry. Meanwhile, the
European Union is forcing these global corporate giants to chart a new path
that, by requiring safe products, is revamping how businesses can create safe
products and make money.
