If you like
the information you receive about the world lukewarm, government approved,
premasticated, predigested, and in pabulum
form then this page will have no value for you. The information stream,
particularly in the United States, is decidedly conservative with cable and broadcast
networks such as CNN, Fox News, NBC, ABC, CBS, and the Fox Network dominating
the information menu for most Americans most get only one side of any given
issue. Even the so-called "Public" Broadcasting Service caves in a
heartbeat when any issue they wish to present even hints at government
disapproval. A recent example of this can be found here:
PBS Officials Cave in to Bush Administration Over
Children's Program
During the buildup to, and throughout the "war" in Iraq all of the
aforementioned news sources marched in lockstep with the Bush administration's
line on every aspect of this conflict. They told you Iraq had so many
Weapons of Mass Destruction they couldn't even hide it all. They didn't
tell you the U.S., sold those weapons to Saddam Hussein when he was our bully
boy in the Mid East. They told you Saddam had a massive nuclear weapons
program underway. They didn't tell all the information backing that charge
had been dismissed by the CIA, and virtually every other intelligence and
monitoring agency in the world. They told us Iraq could deliver a missile
with WMDs to British soil in 45 minutes, and that if we didn't act immediately
our next sunset might be seen through a mushroom cloud. And the networks
never questioned why those flowers the Iraqis would throw turned out to be
Rocket Propelled Grenades. and that red carpet welcome runner would be woven
with improvised explosive devices.
All of this could be chalked up to
ignorance, if you respect that a major news service provider's credibility based
on ignorance. But there is a specific problem with even that excuse as
most of the alternative news sources were telling anyone who would listen that
all the above scenarios were dead wrong, and the evidence about this could be
found with the click of a mouse. Does every major newsroom in the
country have an alternative news site blocking program? Is there some rule
about not using the internet to find out information about important topics they
intend to broadcast? And using the excuse that the alternative news
sources are unreliable and liberally biased is ridiculous considering they were
right and the conservatively biased news providers were wrong from the
beginning, and have been wrong with a frightening consistency throughout the
occupation of Iraq.
Now the Bush administration is waving red
flags at Iran, Syria, Pakistan, and any other power in the region who does not
accept that they should drop their style of government and entire social
structure and turn the entire Mid East into would big corporate Disneyland.
And every major news service is once again marching to the drum beat of world
dominance by steadily heard from the big white house in Washington. Here
are just some of the sites that have held the line on truth on Iraq and the
hundreds of other issues the majority of the public has only the government, or
corporate line to form their opinions around:
