Love
In the New Testament
Love
Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you,
do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and
persecute you;
Matthew 22: 36. Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37. Jesus
said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38. This is the first and great commandment.
39. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets**
Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. 32.
And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there
is one God; and there is none other but he: 33. And to love him with all the
heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the
strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt
offerings and sacrifices.
Luke 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them
which hate you,
Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing
again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the
Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
Luke 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying,
Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? 27 And he
answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy
neighbour as thyself.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I
have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know
that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth
me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and
will manifest myself to him.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my
words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our
abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word
which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
John 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my
love. 10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have
kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 11 These things have I
spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be
full. 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
John 21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of
Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou
knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 16 He saith to him
again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him,
Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 17
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was
grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said
unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus
saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad
in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or
distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor
height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the
love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave
to that which is good.
Romans 13: 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth
another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou
shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou
shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly
comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the
law.
I Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared
for them that love him.
1 Corinthians 13:1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and
have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And
though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all
knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and
have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the
poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth
me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity
vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly,
seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not
in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all
things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but
whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they
shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. 9 For we know in
part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then
that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a
child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I
put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then
face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these
is charity.
II Corinthians 5:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in
honour preferring one another;
II Corinthians 6: 6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by
the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,
II Corinthians 13: 11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good
comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be
with you.
Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not
liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For all
the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself.
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith,

loved us,
Ephesians 3:17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being
rooted and grounded in love,
Ephesians 4:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing
one another in love;
Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given
himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in
knowledge and in all judgment;
Philippians 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love,
being of one accord, of one mind.
Colossians 2: 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in
love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the
acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
I Thessalonians 3:12 And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one
toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
I Thessalonians 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto
you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
I Timothy 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
II Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and
of love, and of a sound mind.
Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good
works:
Hebrews 13:1 Let brotherly love continue.
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he
shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love
him.
James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this
world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them
that love him?
James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
I Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the
Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a
pure heart fervently:
I Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
I Peter 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another,
love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
I John 2: 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God
perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
I John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any
man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
I John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we
should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it
knew him not.
I John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we
should love one another.
I John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love
the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
I John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life
for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
I John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but
in deed and in truth.
I John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of
his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
I John 4: 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one
that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested
the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the
world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God,
but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath
seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love
is perfected in us.
I John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is
love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 Herein is
our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because
as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love
casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect
in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God,
and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he
hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment
have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
I John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and
every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his
commandments.
II John 1: 5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new
commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love
one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is
the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in
it.
Jude 1: 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord
Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
