YAHWEH, The
Name
Even the briefest of contacts
with Ramon Watkins, or his writings will guarantee that you will immediately
hear the word Yahweh, with the strongest of emphasis on each syllable. In
speech, it is heard as Ya - Way; in print it is always capitalized, YAHWEH.
Readers will notice that you never hear the words God, Lord, Jesus, Christ, with
exception of the word messiah. The word "messiah" appears only twice
in the Bible, Daniel 9:25 & 26, and comes from the Hebrew word " mashiyach",
pronounced maw-shee'-akh, and meaning; anointed. We presume that he is referring
to Jesus, when he uses this word, although he never speaks the name, nor makes
any reference to him directly, in his earthly role.
He claims Yahweh is not only the only sacred name for
God, but also a key to his UFO summoning abilities. We are fortunate to
have Mr. Watkins himself provide the source of this belief in two teaching
letters he just sent to his discussion list
pyufos
the very day we started our research.
There is not much substance in these letters and only
one reference given relating directly to the word Yahweh. However, it is
this single reference that provides clues to more than just his belief that no
other name can be used to address God . The letters are linked below and referred to in this paper as Part
1, and Part 2. When reading his presentation in Part 1, please note that,
other than one time, there are no scholarly works mentioned; only Mr. Watkins'
personal research.
** Please note that all
original words, translations, and pronouncements in this paper are taken from
Strong's Exhaustive Concordance, a work Mr. Watkins has personally praised and
recommended on national talk shows.
Here is the warning he sent before the lesson:
The
Information On YAHWEH's Name Is The Key To Summoning
The Name Yahweh
Part 1 outlines Mr.
Watkins basis for his absolute insistence that no other name but Yahweh can be
used to address God. He makes broad assumptions based on things he
realized and, though, he "spent a lot of money copying all the references I
found", and he has "them categorized in my own library", no specific source of
those "references" appear in this writing, other than "the religious department"
in an unnamed library. We have posted the following individual sections
below to demonstrate that his belief has a less scholarly origin. They can be
found in the letter, underlined for reference.
"The personal name of the Creator, YAHWEH, was written in the original languages
of the bible over 6,000 times, but in just about all of today's many English
versions, the name YAHWEH has been secretly removed!"
This is a rather bizarre claim on Mr. Watkins part, implying
that there "was" a secret removal of the word "Yahweh" from the original
"languages" of the Bible. This will come as quite a surprise to the
theological community, but he chooses not to elaborate. "Now is not
the time for me to prove exactly who removed YAHWEH's name from scriptures, when
they did this, and why. I will reveal the truth about this at a later date."
"Regardless, it was clear to me that the vowel points of alternate names of
Satan (Adony and Elohim) were wrongly placed in with the four letters of the
name of the Creator. And, it was this mixture produced the wrong name Jehovah.
Now is not the time for me to go into details of this. However, I will in a
later study."
This is perhaps one of the most obvious
indicators of Mr. Watkins' limited knowledge of the Bible. First his
statement is quite confusing: "the vowel points...were wrongly placed in with
the four letters of the name" We are not sure of his meaning, but it is
assumed that he means that "Adony and Elohim" are names of Satan.
The word "Adonay", translated "Lord" and pronounced
ad-o-noy', appears 443 in the Bible, and means; the Lord and used as a proper
name of God only.
"Elohiym", appears 2340 times, is pronounced el-o-heem',
and means; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used in the plural of
the word Elowahh. pronounced el-o'-ah, which means; a deity or the Deity:
It is the first word used for God in Genesis 1:1.
The word he is referring to as "Yahweh"; in the
Hebrew pronounced yeh-ho-vaw', written in the Hebrew as
, translated into English
as Yhovah, and is found 6,394 times in the Old Testament, as the word Lord.
Mr. Watkins is correct about this word being the "Tetragrammaton"
or the four letter word "YHVH", but he goes on to personally dispute that this
specific word has no vowels, a theologically accepted fact. He, very
strangely, quotes the "writings of the modern day White Jewish scholars and
experts", whom he doesn't name, nor does he reference the "writings" he cites as the
basis for this conclusion. Instead, he dismisses any need to clarify his
point with the statement: "Now is not the time for me to prove exactly who
removed YAHWEH's name from scriptures, when they did this, and why. I will
reveal the truth about this at a later date."
To see the fault in his reasoning, we must consider that
he is only referring to the word Yhovah. Here are the other words rendered as
"Lord" 1391 times in the Old Testament of the Bible, which he ignores or
claims are satanic:
Kurios: appearing
694 times.
Adonay, already
mentioned: appearing 430 times.
Adown: appearing
201 times.
Yahh: appearing 50
times.
Mare: appearing 4
times.
Shaliysh: appearing
3 times.
Gbiyr: appearing 2
times
Despotes: appearing
4 times.
Kurieuo: appearing
1 time.
Rab: appearing 1
time.
Rhabboni: appearing
1 time.
Here are the words rendered as God, Gods, God's, or
Godhead 4615 times in the Old Testament of the Bible, which he ignores or claims
are satanic:
Elohiym: appearing
2561 times.
Theos: appearing
1316 times.
Yhovih: appearing
301 times.
El: appearing 221
times.
Elahh: appearing 93
times.
Elowahh: appearing
80 times.
Me: appearing 15
times.
Beyth: appearing 5
times.
Yhovah: appearing 4
times.
Tsuwr: appearing 2
times.
And 17 other words appearing only 1 time.
This means that the 6006 times the words Lord
God, Gods, God's, or Godhead in the Old Testament of the Bible appear, they are
satanic, including the name of the creators of the planet. Also ignored are the
thousands of times the words Lord or God appear in the New Testament.
The Source Revealed
So how can Mr. Watkins be so short-sighted, or just
blatantly ignorant of this reality? It is easy when you realize this is
not his own concept based on his own tireless lifelong and diligent research,
and his dedication "to the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth"
This claim of "diligent research" is clearly contradicted when you dig into
following statement; the only reference he uses to back his
concepts, which just happens to have all the points he presents:
"I found this startling information in a book I was
blessed to come across titled: "THE MEMORIAL NAME - YAHWEH" by Jacob O. Meyer."
From
The Watchman Expositor Assemblies of Yahweh Profile
we find the following, which shows the true origin of Mr. Watkins'
concepts:
Jacob O. Meyer
Founder of the Assembly of Yahweh of Holt,
Missouri in 1930, perhaps the oldest of the Sacred Name groups in
America.
Sacred Name Movement: Although some Orthodox
Jews and others believe that the name of God is too sacred to speak (and/or
fully write), as used in this Index the Sacred Name movement refers to a modern
movement that claims that God must be addressed by a form of the Divine Name in
the Old Testament (Yahweh, Jehovah, Yah, Yahvah, or some other preferred form).
Whichever one true name is chosen, all other terms or names for God are
considered incorrect or references to false deities. Salvation, it is believed,
depends on referring to God by His correct name.
The Meyers came to believe that the Creator had to be
addressed only by the name Yahweh, and the Son as Yahshua the Messiah. Many
doctrines espoused by the Assemblies of Yahweh are very similar to those taught
by the late Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Worldwide Church of God. Meyer
admits to visiting the headquarters of the Worldwide Church of God. In
correspondence he also acknowledges a long-standing relationship with Herman
Heoh, a leading theologian with the Worldwide Church of God.
"...there is no such thing as an INSPIRED TRANSLATION.
Therefore…we must base all doctrine on the Old Testament. We should…always allow
the Old Testament to interpret the New. Yes, we believe that every word of the
New Testament was Yahweh breathed in its original Hebrew or Aramaic purity…It
should be obvious that any faith based on the so-called 'inspired Greek New
Testament' is a faith not founded upon a solid rock." (Jacob O. Meyer}
Meyer claims that Hebrew is the language of heaven and
that the Hebrew names of Yahweh and Yahshua are mandated as essential for
salvation. F.F. Bruce, the noted biblical language expert, stated that Hebrew
was a dialect of the Phoenician language spoken in numerous adjacent lands.
Thus, it was a man-made language of pagan origin, and not the tongue of heaven.
The Old Testament was translated into Greek in the second century B.C. It was
the universal language of Jews throughout the Mediterranean world. They used the
title Adonai (Lord) when speaking of the Creator.
Meyer says God and Lord are pagan names and must not be
used. Yet, they use the word El when referring to the Creator. El was a
Canaanite deity, the father of Baal. The Sacred Name was not used in the New
Testament despite the claims of Meyer. He claims the New Testament was written
in Hebrew and Aramaic. Although there is some evidence that Matthew and the
epistle to the Hebrews were written in Hebrew, the rest were written in Greek to
a predominantly Greek speaking, largely Gentile church.
Do we need to say more about
where Ramon Watkins takes his concept concerning the name Yahweh? We think
not.
The Sacred "Y" Document
Finally, to muddy the waters even further, Mr. Watkins
has also claimed that there is, yet, another source for his information,
which he simply refers to as the "sacred" Y Document, and fails
completely to mention it in either of these two letters. This document,
though not revealed, seems to have its origins in another source; you be the
judge if it is the "Y" document or actually the "J" document. This
link provides information on the origin of the word Yahweh and is probably the
source from which Jacob O. Meyer got it :

YAHWEH or
Jehovah? - Part 1 June 9,

Part 2
In Part 2, Mr. Watkins goes into a long
examination of the word Yahweh, letter by letter, of course, without giving
adequate proof in Part 1 that this is the sacred name of God. In it he makes the
following opening statement: "This is my second and last study, for now, on
which name: YAHWEH or Jehovah, is the original and true name of the Creator of
all things?" (We do not understand the "?" mark here.)
Apparently he does not intend to "prove exactly who
removed YAHWEH's name from scriptures, when they did this, and why." Oh, but
wait! He apparently does reveal, at least, who "removed YAHWEH's name from
scriptures" in this statement: "This is the reason why Satan's demons took the
name out of the bible and kept it out for so many centuries until the name was
forgotten by man." As you see, there is more to Mr. Watkins' unique
discoveries than meets the eye, or should we say, more than he wants to be
known.
