to the site after the book 223 BC Rome: "At Ariminium a bright light like the day blazed out at night; in many portions of Italy three moons became visible in the night time." - Dio Cassius, Roman History, Book I222 BC Rome: "Also three moons have appeared at once, for instance, in the consulship of Gnaeus Domitius and Gaius Fannius." - Pliny, Natural History, Book II, Ch. 32 217 BC "At Faleri the sky had seemed to be rent as it were with a great fissure and through the opening a bright light had shone." - Livy, History, Book XXII, Ch. 1 214 BC "At Hadria an altar was seen in the sky and about it the forms of men in white clothes." - Julius Obsequens, Prodigiorum Libellus, Ch. 66 163 BC Formice: "In the consulship of Tiberius Gracchus and Manius Juventus at Capua the sun was seen by night. At Formice two suns were seen by day. The sky was afire. In Cephallenia a trumpet seemed to sound from the sky. There was a rain of earth. A windstorm demolished houses and laid crops flat in the field. By night an apparent sun shone at Pisaurum." - Obsequens, Prodigiorum, Ch 114 122 BC Gaul: "In Gaul three suns and three moons were seen." - Obsequens, Prodigiorum, Ch. 114 85 BC "In the consulship of Lucius Valerius and Caius Marius a burning shield scattering sparks ran across the sky. " - Pliny, Natural History, Book II, Ch. 34 81 BC Spoletium: "Near Spoletium a gold-colored fireball rolled down to the ground, increased in size; seemed to move off the ground toward the east and was big enough to blot out the sun." - Obsequens, Prodigiorum, Ch. 114 66 BC "In the consulship of Gnaeus Octavius and Gaius Suetonius a spark was seen to fall from a star and increase in size as it approached the earth. After becoming as large as the moon it diffused a sort of cloudy daylight and then returning to the sky changed into a torch. This is the only record of its occurrence. It was seen by the proconsul Silenus and his suite. " - Pliny, Natural History, Book II, Ch. 35 48 BC "Thunderbolts had fallen upon Pompey's camp. A fire had appeared in the air over Caesar's camp and had fallen upon Pompey's ... In Syria two young men announced the result of the battle (in Thessaly) and vanished." - Dio Cassius, Roman History, Book IV 584 France: The Bishop of Tours in France, is perplexed by curious "domes and golden globes that raced across the sky". 674 England: "In this year a thin and tremulous cloud, a kind of rainbow, appeared at the fourth watch of the night on the fifth day before Easter, proceeding from the east, and turned into the colour of blood."
748 England: " Ships were seen in the air with their men"
793
England: " ...dragons were seen flying in the air"
1078
England: " In this year appeared the wilde fyr such as no man before
remembered: and moreover it did harm in many places." 1320 England, Durham: After the abbot of Durham Abbey died and was buried, a strange light was seen to descend from the sky and move about over his grave.
1520
Erfurt, Prussia: Two burning suns were observed. The report says that a great
burning beam then landed, took off again and then became circular in shape.
1768
Germany: The German poet, dramatist, author and scientist Johann Goethe was
himself a witness to a strange luminous object. He was journeying from
Frankfurt to Leipzig by stagecoach. At one point the rough uphill track was so
treacherous from mud and rain that the passengers were forced to alight and
follow on behind! It was then that Goethe suddenly became aware of lights in
the ravine below them. Writes Goethe: All of a sudden, in a ravine on the
right hand side of the track, I saw a sort of amphitheatre, wonderfully
illuminated. In a funnel-shaped space there were innumerable little lights
shining, ranged step- fashion over one another; and they shone so brilliantly
that the eye was dazzled. But the sight was even more confusing because these
objects did not keep still, but jumped about here and there, as well as
downwards from above!"
1825
Poland, Ohio: A brilliant object was visible in the sky for more than an hour. 1881 Australia: In the summer of 1881 while cruising in the waters off eastern Australia, the two sons of the Prince of Wales were thrilled to see a large flying object! In their book "The Cruise of the Baccante", they described what they'd seen as "a fully illuminated ship"! (of the sky)
1883
Zacatecas, Mexico: An astronomer at the
Zacatecas Observatory saw 143 circular
objects cross in front of the sun. The
astronomer, Professor Jose' Bonilla,
managed to take a photograph of one of
the objects. He wrote up his finding
which were sent to the French journal
L'Astronomie.
1887 Nova
Scotia, Cape Race: From L’Astronomie, "On November 12, 1887, at midnight, near, a huge
ball of fire appeared, slowly emerging from the ocean to an altitude of sixteen
to seventeen meters. This sphere started moving against the wind and stopped
close to the ship from which it was observed. Then it rushed away in the sky and
disappeared in the southeast. The whole observation had lasted five minutes."
1950
White Sands, New Mexico: Daniel W. Fry
of Merlin, Oregon, claims the
distinction of being the first Earthman
to ride in a spaceship. Fry, who
identifies himself as a scientist,
author, and lecturer, he came upon a

LOOK Magazine Article Volume 19, June
14, 1955: Despite hundreds of
"eyewitness" accounts of flying
saucers, none has been captured and no
government has come forward to take
credit (or blame) for their reported
aerial shenanigans. So, barring the
possibility that the saucers are from
other planets (a theory ardently
supported by science-fiction fans), it
seems reasonable to conclude that
"there ain't no such animal." What's here and how to get there. Text version of this site An easy to read black and white version.
