CLOSE ENCOUNTERS
Of the Ancient Kind
The 20th Century
1904
SS Supply. The crew of the ship sighted
three luminous discs flying in formation just below clouds at an estimated
height of 5,000ft. They then disappeared in the cloudbank.
1905
Rumania, Bucovina. During the evening a retired doctor saw a brightly glowing
elongated, saucer-shaped object bigger than the moon traveling steadily
westwards.
1906
Canada, in the North Atlantic, NE of Newfoundland, deck of the ship St Andrew.
"I saw three meteors fall into the water dead ahead of the ship one after
another at a distance of about five miles. Although it was daylight, they left a
red streak in the air from zenith to the horizon. Simultaneously the third
engineer shouted to me. I then saw a huge meteor on the port beam falling in a
zigzag manner less than a mile away to the southward. We could distinctly hear
the hissing of water as it touched. It fell with a rocking motion leaving a
broad red streak in its wake. The meteor must have weighed several tons, and
appeared to be 10 to 15 feet in diameter. It was saucer shaped which probably
accounted for the peculiar rocking motion. When the mass of metal struck the
water the spray and steam rose to a height of at least 40 feet, and for a few
moments looked like the mouth of a crater. If it had been night, the meteor
would have illuminated the sea for 50 or 60 miles."
1906 China
Sea. Giant luminous wheels were seen by a British steamer.
1908
Bulgaria, Sofia. A very bright spherical
object flew slowly above a square one afternoon.
1908
Siberia. A mysterious fireball exploded over Tunguska in Siberia, creating
shock waves felt miles away and setting 1,200 acres on fire. In 1927, Russian
scientists first visit the sight of the blast. They find no meteorite fragments,
but discover unusually high levels of radioactivity in the Tunguska soil.
Speculation centers on the theory that a crippled alien spacecraft's nuclear
reactor exploded on impact. This incident is thought to be the first modern
crash by alien spacecraft.
1909
Vietnam. Fishermen located at the port city of Dong Hui; saw an elongated
brightly lit object flying over the community for nearly ten minutes. It then
disappeared after plunging into the sea of the cost.
1909
England. Mystery airships seen almost exclusively at night, once again visited
many parts of Britain. Mostly described as oblong in shape and equipped with a
large searchlight, the craft was capable of propelling itself through the air at
great speed.
1909 Persian
Gulf. Objects described as rotating wheels, which could go under water were
sighted and a Danish captain.
1910
Normandy. The crew of a French fishing boat operating off the coast saw 'a
large, black, bird-like object' fall from the sky into the sea, then bounded
back before it fell once more and disappeared under the waves.
1912
United States, Lockport, Illinois. Witnesses watched, as an object appeared to
traverse the moon's face for about three minutes. It was rectangular with
absolutely flat ends, about two-thirds the diameter of the full moon in length.
1913
Canada, Toronto. Several office workers in watched what they concluded to be a
fleet of airships passing west to east in groups. They then returned later in a
scattered formation. No airships or airplanes were ever identified with this
report.
1913
England. Two years before Germany officially launched its Zeppelin raids on
Britain and phantom airships were once again crisscrossing the night skies. A
few reports gave details of multi-colored, multiple lights being seen but as in
earlier years the craft usually came equipped with one powerful light. See
Mystery Airships of Britain for further details.
1914
Canada, Ontario. Eight witnesses saw a UFO
floating on the water of Georgian Bay. Entities were manipulating a hose dipped
into the water. On seeing the witnesses they returned inside, all except one who
was still outside when the craft took off.
1915
Canada. It was billed in newspapers of the time as the Phantom Invasion of
Canada. Mystery aircraft invaded the skies and capital of this nation
.
1915
World War I, Hill 60. During, a regiment of the British Army, the 1st 4th
Norfolk, disappeared in an attempt to take Hill 60 at Suvla Bay near Gallipoli.
In front of 22 witnesses, the regiment, over 800 men, marched into a strange
formation of lenticular clouds hovering over Hill 60 and was never seen again.
Posted as missing, the regiment was thought to have been captured. After the
war, Britain demanded the return of the regiment, but the Turks denied any
knowledge of the regiment's existence. No trace of the regiment has ever been
found.
1916
Ireland, Ballinasloe. A bright object was seen hovering in the sky. It was
visible for fifteen minutes before traveling to the northwest. It was then
observed to hover for a further forty-five minutes. It eventually vanished for
good after Venus rose on the horizon.
1917
Portugal, Fatima. Such phenomena include disks, like an "aircraft of light,"
described exactly in these terms by the witnesses of the fifth apparition. Also
observed were double supersonic detonations, light protuberances, electro-static
charges, and moving "stars," mysterious white flowers or snow that dropped down
from the "aircraft of light," but disappeared when it made contact with the
ground. These descriptions of "snow" or mysterious white "flowers" are quite
similar to the descriptions of "angel hair" that are well known from some famous
UFO cases. This was accompanied by additional unexplained aerial
phenomena, in the form of glowing spheres and disc-shaped objects. A UFO
sighting had taken place before a crowd of somewhere between 50,000 - 100,000
people! The story given was that a silver disc appeared just as "the rain
stopped and the clouds rolled back, the sun dimmed out and everything took on a
gray, opaque appearance". The disc then dove in an erratic, zigzag pattern at
the crowd, stopped just above their heads and then slowly maneuvered back into
the sky. As it faded from view, the sun brightened and began to shine again
normally. A local reporter took a photo of the disc.
1917
Germany Bonn. The flamboyant fighter pilot
Baron Manfred von Richtofen, known as the Red Baron not only shot down 80 enemy
planes for the Germans during World War I, he also was the first human in
history to gun down an alien spaceship! That's the fascinating claim of former
German Air Force ace Peter Waitzrik, who says he watched in astonishment as the
deadeye fighter pilot shot a UFO with undulating orange lights out of the sky
over Belgium in 1917. Then, Waitzrik says, he stared in disbelief as two bruised
and battered occupants of the downed craft climbed from their spaceship and
scampered off into the woods -- apparently never to be seen again. "The Baron
and I gave a full report on the incident back at headquarters and they told us
not to ever mention it again," the feisty, 105-year-old retired airline pilot
recently told a reporter. "And except for my wife and grandkids, I never told a
soul. But it's been over 80 years, so what difference could it possibly make
now?" The aging Waitzrik said he and Baron Manfred von Richtofen -- the renowned
Red Baron -- were flying an early morning mission over western Belgium in the
spring of 1917 when the UFO suddenly appeared in a clear, blue sky directly
ahead of their Fokker triplanes. "We were terrified because we'd never seen
anything like it before," recalled the easygoing great-great grandfather of
five. "The U.S. had just entered the war, so we assumed it was something they'd
sent up. "The Baron immediately opened fire and the thing went down like a
rock, shearing off tree limbs as it crashed in the woods. Then the two little
baldheaded guys climbed out and ran away." Waitzrik said he assumed the
glittering silver spaceship was some sort of enemy invention until the flying
saucer scare that began in the late 1940s convinced him that his buddy had shot
down a UFO. "The thing was maybe 40 meters (136 feet) in diameter and looked
just like those saucer- shaped spaceships that everybody's been seeing for the
last 50 years," the awed oldster said. "So there's no doubt in my mind now that
that was no U.S. reconnaissance plane the Baron shot down, that was some kind of
spacecraft from another planet and those little guys who ran off into the woods
weren't Americans, they were space aliens of some kind.
1922
Poland. Many witnesses in observe a silvery object, two hemispheres divided
by a rotating ring. The object 'shoots' a beam of light, and then rises with a
loud noise.
1924
Ireland, County Wexford. Two boys watched for several minutes as a solid beam
of light several feet long traveled through the air a few feet from the ground.
It moved at approximately 10mph, climbing a hedge and crossing a field, before
encountering a railroad track and moving off along its length.
1925
United States, Moora, WA. Two Australian teenagers stumbled upon a
saucer-shaped shimmering object resting on four legs in a paddock near. They ran
off in fear.
1926
Mongolia. During his expedition explorer Nicholas Roerich and members of his
caravan, caught sight of a huge oval-shaped object high in the sky. It had a
shiny surface that reflected the sun on one side and moved at great speed north
to south.
1927
Romania. A cylindrical object flew over a Rumanian village at an altitude of
200-300 m from west to east. Smoke gray in color it was an estimated 15-20 m in
length and had a diameter of 3-4 m. It was not illuminated and passed
soundlessly.
1927
Australia, Fernvale. A disc-shaped object
with a dome on top was seen to light up a valley as it landed one evening. The
witnesses returned the next day and discovered a circle of scorched grass about
10m in diameter.
1931
Tasman Sea. The late Sir Francis Chichester was on a flight across the Tasman
Sea when what looked like a dull gray-white airship approached him. It was
pearl-shaped, flashing brightly, periodically vanishing, re-appearing,
accelerating and finally disappeared.
1933
Scandinavia. The month of December saw the beginning of the Swedish 'Ghost
Flier' Wave. It ended four years later with an accumulation of 1,000 reports
that also covered neighboring Finland and Norway. Most sightings involved
airplane-shaped craft and luminous phenomena, none identified.
1935
Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. During the Ethiopian War a disc-shaped object hovered
motionless in the sky above and was seen by many witnesses.
1935
Canada, Saskatchewan. Three witnesses saw
landed UFO at Nipawin, and watched several little entities in silver suits
ascending and descending a ladder. Square imprints and burnt areas seen and
photographed at the location the next day.
1938
Estonia, Juminda. Two observers watched a 1-meter long object that was greenish
-brown in color until it finally disappeared.
1940 Japan.
While flying over Japan, Wing Commander D.J. Blakeslee sighted an object he
described as having red, green and white lights. The craft moved rapidly to
escape detection. Blakeslee was guided by ground radar. He was reported to be
stable and reliable. The Air Force officially ruled the sighting to be Jupiter,
although it was tracked by radar.
1942
Timor Sea. The cruiser Tromp was approached by a large aluminum disc that flew
at tremendous speed. It then circled the Dutch vessel for about three to four
hours. Finally, it flew off at an estimated speed of 3,000-3,500 mph.
1942
Solomon Islands. While in the Solomon Islands US Marine Corp Sgt. Stephen J.
Brickner sighted a staggering number of UFOs, laid out in virtually an enormous
rectangle. They were in rows of 15 objects long by ten objects deep. The
formation was 15 craft long and 10 deep. Formation sightings have been reported
before but the rectangle shape is unique.
1942
United States, Los Angeles, California. In February, UFO's were reported
flying near Los Angeles. Paul T. Collins was one of the main reporting witnesses
who had seen these UFO's. He described them as lights moving in a strange
manner. There were also reports from other witnesses stating that they had seen
extremely large UFO's around the same times as Mr. Collins.
1943
Russia, Pushkino. Soldiers saw a disc-shaped object hovering high in the air
above aircraft.
1943
China, Qing Xian, Hebet Province. A domed UFO that emitted a white light was
seen flying less than 20 feet above the ground.
1944
Austria, Klagenfurt. Major Leet, a bomber pilot, saw a luminous disc follow his
plane and its maneuvers.
1944 United States, Washington,
DC. On February 22, Franklin D. Roosevelt writes a Top Secret memo on White
House stationary for "The special committee on non-terrestrial science and
technology." Both the title and the content clearly allude to extraterrestrial
life, the former using the word "non-terrestrial" and the latter talks about
"coming to grips with the reality that our planet is not the only one harboring
intelligent life the universe.
1945 Aleutian Islands. Fourteen
men on the USAT Delarof saw a dark spherical object rise out of the water,
circle their ship and fly off to the south.
1946
Sweden. The well-documented 'Ghost Rocket' invasion of Sweden took place as
cigar-shaped objects rained down on land and lake in this area of northern
Europe.
1946 United States, Florida.
Pilot and crew of a C-47 aircraft 30 miles north-east of Tampa, saw a
cigar-shaped object with luminous portholes hurtle towards them in horizontal
flight at the same altitude of 4,000ft. At 1,000 yards distant it swerved to
avoid them. Estimated size of object was twice that of a B-29 bomber.
1947
United States. A letter dated 23 September 1947 from Lt. Gen. Nathan F.
Twining, Chief of Staff of the U. S. Army to the Commanding General of the Army
Air Force establishes of a study of flying saucers to be called Project Sign,
and assigned a high priority in a letter dated 30 December 1947 from Maj. Gen.
L. C. Craigie.
1947
Italy. An Italian artist by the name of Rapuzzi Johannis was taking a
leisurely walk in the mountains between Italy and Yugoslavia. He saw just in
front of him a red glowing saucer. This saucer was about thirty feet wide and it
was accompanied by two small dwarf-like creatures. These creatures had very
large heads with green faces, sort of resembling that of a fish. They also had a
circle around each eye. Apparently one of the creatures had hit Johannis with an
electrical ray which left him very weak and almost paralyzed. After this
incident the creatures ignored the Johannis and left.
1947
United States, Nevada, Lake Mead. While cruising at 6,000 feet, US Air force
pilot Lieutenant Armstrong witnessed six discs flying in formation.
1947 United
State , Washington, Mount Rainier. Kenneth Arnold was on an aerial search for a
crashed C-46 marine transport plane when he saw 9 objects flying in formation.
He estimated their speed at 1,300 to 1,700 miles per hour, distance at 23 miles
and length of formation to be 5 miles. Also in the air at the time was a DC-4,
which Arnold used as a point of reference to estimate the size of individual
discs. He estimated the size as two-thirds the size of the DC-4. This sighting
was not corroborated by radar or witnesses but did attract media attention and
public interest.
1947
United States, New Mexico, White Sands. C. J. Zohn stationed at White Sands
proving grounds in New Mexico watched a huge, silver, circular disc at a height
of 10,000 feet above the installation. This sighting was just days after Kenneth
Arnold's sighting which publicized the UFO phenomenon.
1947
United States, Spokane, Washington. Eight disk-shaped objects the size of a
house, were seen flying at 1000 km/h. A civilian woman stated that the objects
fell with a dead leaf motion and landed before ten witnesses on the shore of the
Saint Joe River, in Idaho.
1947
UnitedStates,California, Muroc Dry Lake, now
Edwards Air Force Base. Four witnesses: 1st Lt. Joseph McHenry, T/Sgt Ruvolo,
S/Sgt Nauman, and Miss Janette Scotte watched for an unstated length of time
while two disc-shaped or spherical objects, silver and apparently metallic, flew
a wide circular pattern, and then one of them later flew a tighter circle,
moving about 300 mph at approximately 8,000 feet." More officers gathered as a
third object came into sight. A test pilot had reported seeing a round object at
about 12,000 feet the day before.
1948 United
States, Louisville, Kentucky. Capt. Thomas Mantell lost his life on 7 January
while attempting to chase a
UFO, This is the first fatality on record directly connected with an UFO
chase. Reports from private citizens were made to the Kentucky State Highway
Patrol describing a strange, saucer-shaped flying object, 200 - 300 ft.
diameter. It was also seen by several other witnesses, including the base
commander, at the control tower of Godman AFB, outside Louisville. Official
explanations concluded that he was chasing the planet Venus in the bright
afternoon sky or a secret Navy balloon.
1948 United
States, Fargo, North Dakota. Lt. George F. Gorman of the North Dakota National
Guard was approaching Fargo, flying an F-51. The tower called his attention to a
Piper Cub which he saw below him. As he prepared to land, suddenly what he took
to be the tail-light of another plane passed him on his right, but the control
tower assured him no other planes were in the area. Chasing the light, he got
within 1,000 yd. of it. It had been blinking but suddenly became steady and
started to move rapidly with the F-51 pursuit. There followed a complicated
chase in which Gorman had to dive on one occasion to avoid collision. Suddenly
the light began to climb and disappeared. The Air Weather Service provided an
analysis which indicated that Gorman had been chasing a lighted balloon.
1948 United
States, Houston, Texas. Eastern Airlines DC-3, pilot Clarence S. Chiles and
co-pilot John B. Whitted, were on a regular run from Houston to Atlanta, At
2:45 a.m. they saw a bright light dead ahead coming rapidly toward them. They
pulled to the left to avoid a collision. Looking back they saw the UFO go into a
steep climb. The pilots described it as a wingless B-29 fuselage and said that
the underside had a deep blue glow.
1950
United States, Pasadena, California. A producer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, was
driving home with his wife when they said they witnessed three revolving disks
traveling at great speed. The next day, a group at Caltech reported seeing the
same objects.
1950
United States, Stuggart, Arkansas. Chicago & Southern Airlines Capt. Jack Adams
and First Officer G. W. Anderson, Jr. reported witnessing one 100' circular disc
with 9-12 portholes along the lower side emitting a soft
purple light, and a light at the top which flashed 3 times in 9 seconds, flew at
not less than 1,000 m.p.h. It was seen for 25-35 seconds.
1952
United States, Washington, D.C. Perhaps the best documented UFO incident in
history:
July 13.
National Airlines plane en route to National Airport, about 60 mi. SW of the
city observed a blue- white ball of light hovering to the west. Object then
"came up to 11,000 ft. and then maintained a parallel course, on the same level,
at the same speed, until the aircraft pilot turned on all lights. Object then
departed from the vicinity at an estimated 1000 mph. Weather was excellent for
observation." The crew said the object "took off up and away." No other air
traffic was reported in the area at the time.
July 14.
Newport News, Va. Southbound Pan American Airways plane at 8,000 ft. nearing the
Norfolk, Va., area observed six glowing red, circular objects approaching below
the airliner; objects flipped up on edge in unison and then sped from behind and
under the airliner and joined the in-line formation, which "climbed in a
graceful arc above the altitude of the airliner." "Then the lights blinked out
one by one, though not in sequence." Next day the crew was thoroughly
interrogated and advised that they already had seven other reports of red discs
moving at high speed and making sharp turns.
July 16.
Hampton Roads, Va. A Government aeronautical research engineer observed two
amber-colored lights approaching from the south at about 500 m.p.h. These slowed
and made a U-turn, revolved around each other at a high rate of speed, then
joined by two other objects from different directions, the four sped off to the
south at about 500 m.p.h. "They moved jerkily when moving slowly. Their ability
to make tight circling turns was amazing."

Herndon, Va. Capital Airlines flight from National Airport called by control
tower to check on unidentified radar targets saw three objects, and three more
between there and Martinsburg, W. Va. "like falling stars without tails [which]
moved rapidly up, down, and horizontally. Also hovered." Chief CAA air traffic
controller Harry Barnes later said in a newspaper interview: "His [the pilot's]
subsequent description of the movement of the objects coincided with the
position of our pips [radar targets] at all times while in our range.
July 20. Andrews AFB, Md., (Nr. Washington, D.C.). Five
witnesses visually observed three reddish-orange objects moving erratically.

Herndon, Va., to within about 4 miles west of the airport, confirmed on radar.
July 20.
Additional unidentified targets appear on radar at National Airport.
July 20.
Air Force radar operators at Andrews AFB weather tower tracked 10 UFOs for 15-20
minutes. Objects approached runway, scattered, made sharp turns and reversals of
direction.
July 26.
Sharp UFO targets on radar at National Airport. Civilian pilots saw glowing
white objects on four occasions, including a United Airlines pilot near Herndon,
Va., and two CAA pilots over Maryland. National Airlines pilot near Andrews AFB
at 1700 ft. saw a UFO "flying directly over the airliner."
July 26.
Radar at National airport tracked a UFO on radar ("big target"), confirmed by
Andrews AFB radar.
July 26.

unidentified radar targets. Two F-94 jet interceptors scrambled from New Castle
AFB, Delaware, to investigate.
July 27.
Major Fournet, (Project Blue Book Officer in Pentagon), and Lt. Holcomb, (Navy
electronics expert), arrived at National Airport Center. Observed "7 good, solid
targets." Holcomb checked on temperature inversions, but they were minor and
could not explain what was going on. He so advised AF Command Post, requesting
interception mission. By the time the F-94 jets arrived from Delaware, no strong
unidentified targets remained and no visual contacts were made.
July 27.
F-94 jet interceptors scrambled from New Castle AFB, Del., to investigate
Washington, D.C., radar- UFOs. One F-94 pilot made visual contact and appeared
to be gaining on target; both F-94 and UFO were observed on radar and "appeared
to be traveling at the same approximate speed." When the F-94 pilot tried to
overtake the UFO, it disappeared visually and on radar. The pilot remarked about
the "incredible speed of the object."
July 27.
Air Force Lieutenant at Andrews AFB saw a dark disc moving slowly northeast with
"oscillating rolling motion." Clouds were moving southeast. UFO entered base of
clouds.

time, moving southeast in a belt 15 miles wide near Washington, D.C.
July 29.
Eastern Airlines pilot asked to check on radar targets, reported seeing nothing.
CAA official said the targets disappeared from the radar screen when the plane
was in their area, "then came back in behind him."
July 29.
Air Force pilot sighted three round white UFOs 10 miles southeast of Andrews
AFB. Other UFOs tracked by radar during the afternoon.
July 29. Air Force press conference at which the sightings were
attributed to temperature inversions causing "radar mirages," typically ground
lights reflected in the sky under freak atmospheric conditions. Also announced
new scientific program to evaluate sightings.
1952
Argentina, Veronica. Hundreds of residents witnessed six discs circling above
the town, the disappearing into the night sky. This sighting was written within
hours of a similar report from Captain Paul Carpenter near Denver. Carpenter
reported the craft were traveling at 3,000 miles per hour, making it possible
for the saucer to have appeared in both locations.
1952
United States, Enid, Oklahoma. Sidney Eubank went to the Enid police station
and told Sergeant Vern Bennell that an enormous disk had buzzed his car as he
drove between Bison and Waukonis on Highway 81. The rush of air made the car
leave the road while the object flew west very fast.
1952
United States, George AFB, California. Three men on the arms range, plus one
Lt. Colonel 4 miles away witnessed five flat-white discs about the diameter of a
C-47's wingspan (95') flew fast, made a 90^ turn in a formation of three in
front and two behind, and darted around, for 15-30 seconds.
1952 United States, Norman, Oklahoma. Oklahoma State Patrolman
Hamilton in a State Patrol airplane witnessed three dark discs hovered and then
flew away, silhouetted against a dark cloud. 15 seconds.
1952
United States, Wichita Falls, Texas.: Mr. and
Mrs. Adrian Ellis. witnessed two disc-shaped objects, illuminated by a
phosphorus light, flew at an estimated l,000 m.p.h. for 15 seconds
1955 General Douglas MacArthur. General MacArthur is believed to have
been involved in establishing the Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit (IPU), which
was formed to investigate crashed and retrieved flying saucers. In 1955
MacArthur stated: "The nations of the world will have to unite for the next war
will be an interplanetary war. The nations of the earth must some day make a
common front against attack by people from other planets." This statement has
led to intense speculation that the IPU uncovered more facts about UFOs than has
ever been revealed.
1955
United States, Cochise, New Mexico. An instructor and student pilot in USAF
B-25 bomber trainer witness a metallic disc, shaped like two pie pans
face-to-face, and 120- 130' in diameter, paced the B-25, showing
both its edge and its face, for 5-7 minutes.
1956 United States, New York. Capt. Ryan and his first officer William
Neff were flying from Albany to Syracuse. At a height of 6,000 feet, the two
observed a brilliant white light like an approaching aircraft with landing
lights on. Ryan estimated that the object was moving at approximately 1,000
miles per hour , faster than any object of the day. The UFO glowed orange in
front of them. Ryan and Neff reported the encounter to Griffiss Air Force Base.
The Base confirmed that they also could see an orange object nearby. This
sighting lasted over twenty minutes and was also witnessed by the flight
attendant, Phyllis Reynolds.
1956
United States, San Bernardino, California.
15-year-old Michael Savage, son of a surgeon, took a picture of a mysterious
flying object that he said hovered near his house for 30 seconds. ; those
photos, too, made the paper. Just as the phenomenon was beginning to die out,
Hollywood added its own inimitable touch to the UFO craze.
1956
England, Suffolk. The RAF/USAF in Bentwaters / Lakenheath in made radar
contact with a UFO using three ground-based radars. A confirmation on aerial
radar by a Venom night fighter and visual sightings from the ground and the air
make this case one of the most celebrated contacts of modern times. Radar
indicated that objects were moving up at 4,000 miles per hour -- higher speeds
than any aircraft of the time could have achieved.
1958
Russia, Moscow. A large, disk-shaped object was seen on the ground. It rose in
a spiral motion, then took off and was lost to sight.
1961 United
States. Betty and Barney Hill. Driving to their home in New Hampshire, Betty
and Barney Hill notice a bright light in the sky. Radar reports at the nearby
Pease Air Force Base also record something in the air at that time. The Hills
examined the light through binoculars, and saw a structured object with flashing
lights. Barney walks across a field for a closer look, and sees beings looking
back at him. Frightened, he and Betty drive home, arriving two hours later then
expected. They cannot account for the missing time (a common phenomenon among
abductees) until they undergo regression hypnosis. The couple described being
stopped by the UFO and taken aboard the saucer for medical examination. Due to
the impressive documentation and the confirming radar trace from Pease Air Force
Base, the Hill case is one of the most famous on record.
1965
United States. The Great Northeast
Blackout. Eight states; Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New
Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont lost power in this power failure.
Although a faulty automatic relay device at a plant near Niagara Falls is
blamed, there is evidence that UFOs can cause power failures in the national
electricity grid systems, although this may only be a side effect rather than an
intentional act. In December of the same year, the grid systems failed in New
Mexico and Texas following UFO sightings in those areas.
1965
Red Sea. The crew of the steamship Raduga
observed an unusual phenomenon. At about two miles away, a fiery sphere dashed
out from under the water and hovered over the surface of the sea, illuminating
it. The sphere was sixty meters in diameter, and it hovered above the sea at an
altitude of 150 meters. A gigantic pillar of water rose as the sphere emerged
from the sea and collapsed some moments later.
1969
United States, Leary, Georgia. While Jimmy
Carter was the governor of Georgia, he sighted a UFO. It was on January 6, at
7:15 P.M. He filed a report with the National Investigations Committee on Aerial
Phenomena. The report explained that there was a large, bright object in the
